Los Angeles, CA (June 21, 2010) -- Frank Pictures Gallery is delighted to present, KILLING WIT
H LOVE, Billy Zane’s debut show of paintings from June 26th to September 1st, with an opening reception for the artist on Sunday, June 27th from 6:30 to 9:30.

Zane, best known for his achievements as an actor in over 80 films, most memorably as Caledon Hockley in the 1997 film Titanic, began painting during his seven months of filming. It didn’t take long for his interest in painting become more than a pastime, it became a consuming passion, often interrupted by his on set responsibilities. Since then he has set up makeshift art studios on almost every location he has filmed in, the cultural influences and use of only local materials influence his spontaneous abstract offerings.

“I love the surprise. The joy of making do with what you ha
ve to work with. The Hardware store, ship yard, roadside dumpsite is my art store and most countries, cities and villages are not short on supplies. If I can’t find canvas, I find old signage, shelf liner, or shipping crates. If I can’t find enough paint I use soil, clay, wine, spit, anything that adheres.”

He has been further influenced in his art by his practice of the Japanese sword fighting martial art of Kendo. “In Kendo, or Specifically the Samurai ethic and art of swordsmanship, before it was diluted into a sport after WW2, one should not insult their opponent with a mincing, poorly executed cut. It should be decisive, effective, a clean kill, informed with respect for ones adversary and ones own skill. In painting, it’s this commitment to task that interests me most, the cut, the stroke. The act supersedes the message. Logic and meaning, if any, emerge after the fact, but are inherent, like the sculpture in the stone, and only evident when I have been guided by an almost brash confidence. Painting for me, is more physical than psychological or even emotional. Although, I derive great joy from the act and serve an almost insatiable desire to sling paint.”

INDIE FILMMAKERS MAKE MONEY IN FILMMAKING PROCESS WITH MOVIESET.COM & SOKAP

VANCOUVER, Canada (5/19/10)
- A significant deal, preempting Cannes is the strategic alliance formed between internet portal MovieSet.com and crowdfunding social utility start-up SoKap.

MovieSet.com helps filmmakers build their core audience online and provides a suite of production management software and behind-the-scenes capabilities. The site also enables producers to stream content to fans over the entire life-cycle of a project - from development to delivery.

"We wanted to create an incentive that would reward filmmakers for investing time into marketing on the front end of production. By partnering with SoKap filmmakers are enabled to monetize their fan bases," said MovieSet.com founder Colleen Nystedt.

SoKap founder, David Geertz, caught the attention of MovieSet.com when SoKap's pilot beta - The Biracy Project - launched several months ago. The Biracy Project is crowdfunding and crowdsourcing a multi-million dollar science-fiction film by engaging fans throughout the filmmaking process.

"We initially planned to develop our own suite of promotions and production tools," says Geertz, "but working with MovieSet made perfect sense" after numerous producers approached him requesting access to SoKap. "Once we decided to open up the platform it became obvious that MovieSet would allow us to leverage their standing with not only filmmakers, but their fans".

Audiences Agree, Simple Things Win
Independent film "Simple Things" (aka Country Remedy) wins Audience Award

Hollywood, CA (07/23/2007) - The independent feature film that is quietly sweeping the country, "Simple Things" took home the Audience Award at the Real to Reel Film Festival this weekend. Executive Producer, David Huff was on-hand to accept the award. This marks the ninth major award “Simple Things” has won this year.

A wonderful family story, "Simple Things" written and directed by award winning Andrew C. Erin and produced by multi award winning Tosca Musk (Back 40 Films in association with Musk Entertainment); is inspired by the writings of Lewis Hine Award Winner , recipient of North Carolina's Order of the Long Leaf Pine and Sr. Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Dr. Olson Huff.

In "Simple Things", Dr. Evan Gibbs has the world on a string. The leading pediatrician at a Chicago’s children’s hospital, he is poised to takeover as department chair. When cancer suddenly takes the life of his wife, Dr. Gibbs is devastated. Struggling with his loss, he buries himself in work, succeeding only in isolating himself from his son, who so desperately needs him. Begrudgingly and under the very strong suggestion of his hospital medical director, Dr. Gibbs consents to aid a small town in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina by setting up a medical clinic during his now mandatory summer vacation. Everything is not what he expects; his big city attitude clashes against the ways of the small community. Through the support of a colorful cast of characters, a mix of drama and humor, Dr. Gibbs finds the strength to face his loss and reconnect with his son, while discovering that the “simple things” are the most important.

A triumphant vote that audiences are looking for positive, value-based entertainment "Simple Things" is currently touring the festival circuit and is distributed by Screen Ventures Media.
