SoHo New York, New York (01/11/10) -- The Soho International Film Festival NYC 2010 is proud to announce the accepted films for this year's official selection.

Founder Jorge Ballos, announced that the 1st SoHo International Film Festival NYC 2010 (www.siffnyc.com) will run February 18-21, 2010 in the heart of SoHo, New York City. "This new festival will celebrate the cutting-edge of digital technology while honoring traditional forms of storytelling with a presentation of at least twelve feature films, in and out of competition categories. In addition, the festival will host film making seminar and nightly after-parties. Leading figures of the film industry as well as local film enthusiasts are expected to attend the unique, four-day February event. By enticing filmmakers, journalists and cineastes from America and around the globe with a strong slate of domestic and international films, we expect to draw audiences to this side of the city, known for its artistic community and cultural sophistication,'' stated Ballos. "It is our way of helping boost the profile, the sense of pride, and the economy of the local community and the city itself."


Co-founder Luis Pedron added, "We got a lot of strong foreign film submissions through withoutabox.com that should make our festival a distinguished international showcase. In addition, we've received a good number of wonderfully original shorts and indie features from American filmmakers."


On February 21, 2010, the festival will have an awards night to announce the winner of the following categories:
Best US Showcase, Best World Showcase, Best Documentary, Best Short, Best Work in Progress and Audience Awards.

Who: Local and international filmmakers & founders Luis Pedron and Jorge Ballos.

Why: The first SoHo International Film Festival will run February 18-21, 2010 in New York City. The fledgling festival’s purpose is to “celebrate the cutting-edge of digital technology while honoring traditional forms of storytelling with a presentation of at least twelve feature films, in and out of competition categories.” In addition, the festival will host filmmaking panels, workshops and nightly after-parties.

“We’re getting a lot of strong foreign film submissions that should make our festival a distinguished international showcase,” said co-founder Luis Pedron in a statement. “In addition, we’ve received a good number of wonderfully original shorts and indie features from American filmmakers. We’re quite pleased, especially given the limited time and the fact that we’re still a new festival.”
